The sugar cube began to be replaced in
restaurants directly after World War II.
At this time, machines were made that
could produce small packets of sugar for
nearly half the cost..

Sugar nippers were a necessary
part of a table setting back in
Colonial America. The hostess
would chip off small usable pieces
from a sugar cone that the guests
would use for their coffee or
whatever they would like to use it
with.
